The monastery of Gradeshnitsa “Prophet St. John the Forerunner and Baptist” is situated 38 km northwest of the city of Vratsa, 36 km northeast of the city if Montana, 1.5 km west of the village of Gradeshnitsa and 2 km south of the right bank of the river Ogosta.It is in a valley north of the “Kaleto” area in the west of the “Selishteto” area at an altitude of 165m above sea level. There is a small river flowing in close proximity to the south walls of the monastery, a feeder of the Ogosta river. The monastery falls on the lands of the village Gradeshnitsa and borders with the villages of Lessura to the east, Baurene to the south, Ohrid and Beli Breg to the west, and Gromshin and Kushan to the north, the latter being unpopulated since the late 19th century. The area surrounding the monastery is picturesque – a hill surrounded from three sides by a meandering canyon linked with a plateau.
