The village of Peina is situated close to the ancient Roman market-place Diskoduratera (even today you can see remains) which had very important part for the economical development of provinces Thrace and Mizia. The village is also known in History with the fact that the fighters from the band of Pop Hariton and Bacho Kiro (famous Bulgarian revolutionary) passed through it on their way to Dryanovo Monastery in the rebellious spring of 1876.
The hosts of Old-Bulgarian holiday complex ‘Peina’ Veleslava Moravleva and Gencho Penev have saved the authentic style of the Bulgarian national revival not only in restoring the houses but also inside where the interior is influenced by the lifestyle 150-200 years ago – with restored old furniture, fireplace, tavern and the drawing-room where you can see ancient artifacts and weapons. There are remains proving that through the village of ‘Peina’ passed ancient Roman way.
